The Tuesday before Thanksgiving Break, we took a field trip to Houchens Grocey Store. We took a tour of the store and documented different items we saw. Our favorite isle was the milk and cheese isle. After our tour, we went shopping for canned goods. Each child was given an ingredient for vegetable soup. They found that item on the shelf and took it up front to pay for it. We had lots of fun at the grocery store. After Thanksgiving break we made vegetable soup with the canned food we bought at the grocery. Below are some picture of the children enjoying their soup!!

Little Scotties News

This week we have been talking about different kinds of plants and what they need to live and grow. We also discussed the different things they give us, such as tomatoes, flowers, watermelon, grapes, pineapples, bananas, apples, etc. We also talked about how flowers need sunlight to grow.
This week we also read “Jack and the Beanstalk” and talked about Jacks magic beans. After we discussed the book, we planted our own magic beans and documented what they looked like. We also predicted what we thought would happen to our beans.
We have also been practicing our math by doing leaf math this week. Some of us rolled a dice and counted the number of leafs out and glued them on our tree, while others rolled two dice and counted out leaves and added them together. We had lots of fun doing this.
Thanks to everyone who attend Family Literacy Night on Thursday. We had lots of fun eating pizza and playing BINGO.

This week we have read the story “There was an old lady who swallowed a bat”. We have been using props to tell the story and discussing words in the story that rhyme, such as cat and bat.
This week we have also continued talking about the days of the week and the months in the year. We have been using songs to learn about each of these. These songs were sent home in the Poetry Songbooks, ask your child to sing these for you!
Monday was our field trip to the nursing home and Glasgow Board of Education, where we trick or treated. The children had lots of fun trick or treating and dressing up in their costumes. Tuesday we wrote thank you notes to the nursing home and Board of Education for letting us come trick or treat. We practiced counting and adding simple numbers using spider web math on Wednesday, and on Thursday, we wrote letters to Santa that will be published in the Barren County Progess newspaper.
A big thank you to all of those who sent in candy wrappers and magazines with pictures of toys in them for us to use.
