Green Eggs and Ham
On Friday The Cat in the Hat came to visit. She read a book to the children and then we fixed green eggs and ham for snack. The kids weren't sure about the green eggs but they sure enjoyed the ham.
Valentine's Day Party
Valentine's Day party/ February Parent Involvement
Parents were invited to our classroom to do fun activities with their children on Valentine's Day. Below are some pictures of our activities!
Dr. Will Whiteside, a dentist here in Glasgow, made a visit to Highland Elementary. He talked to the children about taking good care of their teeth and gave them some tips on keeping their teeth healthy. Dr. Will sent each child home with a goody bag that included a toothbrush, tooth holder, and informational brochures for parents. The children had alot of fun learning about the duties of a dentist and their teeth.

Scotties News

This week we have
been celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday by reading lots of his books and doing
many activities. We started the week
read the book Green Eggs and Ham and did a positional word activity in
small group with a green paper egg and an object of the child’s choice. They placed the egg somewhere on their paper
in relation to the object they chose and wrote where it was (ex: The egg is
under the star.) We also read the book Ten
Apples up on Top and we glued a various number of objects on top of our
pictures. The kids had lots of fun with
this. We also read the book The Cat
in the Hat and talked about rhyming words in the book. Today we had green eggs and ham for
snack. The children enjoyed this and
thought it was so fun to eat green eggs.
We also graphed whether or not each child liked the green eggs and ham
or not.
Don’t forget to
send back the half white sheet of paper with the Healthy Highland challenge on
it. We are trying to win another fruit
basket!!
Reminders:
-On Thursday a
purple sheet of paper went home about Highlands
“March into Spring” night. Please send
the RSVP back by Friday, March 8.
-We will be going
to Barren County Healthcare on March 25 for an Easter egg hunt. For this hunt we are asking parents to send
in 10-12 plastic eggs with WRAPPED CANDY in them. Please have those to school by March 15.
-April 1-5- SPRING BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Ms.
Nikkia Smith’s Kindergarten class is collecting can tabs for the Ronald
McDonald House. If you have any can tabs, please send them to school.
-Below
is just a reminder of the school wellness policy, since there is so much
sickness going around right now, we ask that everyone pay close attention to
this.
Any
child showing signs of communicable illnesses such as severe colds, chicken
pox, flu, diarrhea, vomiting or elevated temperature should NOT be sent to
school. Sick children do not enjoy being
at school and the illness limits their active participation in classroom
activities. We will send sick children
home so please make sure we can contact you to take your sick child home. If your child is known or suspected to have
or be infected with a communicable disease or condition for which a reasonable
probability for transmission exists in the school setting, the school may order
the student to be excluded from school.
The time period the student is excluded from school shall be in
accordance with generally accepted medical standards which the school shall
obtain from consultation with the students physician, the local health officer,
or the Ky Dept. for Public Health.
Typically, the duration is 24 hours after your child no longer exhibits
symptoms or fever.
If you need to
contact me, please email me at erin.garrett@glasgow.kyschools.us
or call me at school at 659-0432 between 1:00 and 2:00, or after 3:00. If you call at any other times during the
school day, please leave a message with the office staff. Speaking to parents is always a priority;
however my time when the children are at school is devoted to meeting their
needs in the classroom. I will return
your calls as soon as possible. Thank
you for your understanding and cooperation.
Have a GREAT
weekend,
Ms. Erin
